How did the idea of the ride come about?

Bruce Van Den Einde had a dream to do a ride for cancer.  One idea was to get sponsors and he would ride across ND with his horse, Buster and donate all the proceeds to a cancer organization.  He thought it would be more fun to include other riders.  After discussing with his wife for three plus years they decided to find time in their life to devote to the planning of the cancer ride….and so … the planning began.  Bruce made the first call to American Cancer Society and “Cowboy Up” ride against cancer was born. Bruce and Carol realized early on, that planning this ride would be a bigger job than they could do by themselves. Bruce, asked his brother, Wes Van Den Einde and sister-in-law Cherryl and 6 of their closest  life long friends to join in organizing this great event. Bruce and Carol are avid  horse riders and asked  their many trail riding friends to help provide the experience needed to plan the trail ride.

The committee is  10  of Bruce & Carol’s very close family and friends known as the “Gang”.  They are: Wes & Cherryl Van Den Einde, Curt & Pauline Holmlund, Tim & Karen Haugen, Roger & Vickie Manske, and Bruce and his wife Carol.  The committee members all have full-time jobs and come from various backgrounds and professions, which has proved to be very helpful in the organizing of the ride … he made his dream come true!

We would like to thank all of our riders,  sponsors, and the great people of McLeod for making the 2007 ride a success.
We exceeded our goal, even with the not so favorable weather, but could not have done so without your support.  Please take a moment to pat yourselves on the back because you are the "Angels Among Us"
